BYOB is a series of one-night exhibitions hosting artists and their beamers (projectors). All artists are invited to show work during BYOB-RVA, with the only requirement being they provide their own projector (open to interpretation) and work. Installation is free-form, with artists reacting to the space and their fellow beamers throughout the night. First initiated by Rafaël Rozendaal in 20 10, over 80 BYOB events have taken place throughout the world, from Berlin and Tokyo, to San Francisco and New York City.
Saturday, October 6th Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB) at Knockdown Knockdown Center is pleased to present our very own Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB) on October 6th. Starting at 8 PM, the event will feature live projections by almost 30 artists and music throughout the evening accompanying the visuals. This is also the last gasp for summer’s artist commissioned minigolf course. Beer and edibles will be available at the concessions stand. Come out and celebrate the crisp bruised leafiness of fall! What is Knockdown, you ask? Knockdown Center is a 3 acre industrial complex on the edge of Bushwick and Maspeth. In 1903, Knockdown Center was built to manufacture glass; it then was used to make doors. Now, it wants to be something else entirely. It wants to inspire and host the most inventive, courageous, and powerful projects it possibly can. Knockdown Center wants to challenge the world as it is, and manufacture sustainable ways to serve as a foundation for current and future cultural production. Projections by: Sam Ashford, Ivana Basic, Beauty Today, Lily Benson, Dora Budor+Maya Cule, Victoria Campbell, Micaela Carolan, April Childers, Tomashi Jackson, Deborah Johnson, Anna Liberman, Rebecca Leopold, Amanda Long, Hannah Manfredi, Andrew Ross, Wadih Sader, Saki Sato, Joao Salema + Sofy Yuditskaya ,Taylor Shields, Anthony Simon, Nikita Vishnevskiy +more! Live Music by: Lydsod, Trabajo, Raft, Jeanann Dara, Skip LaPlante, and Insect Deli 52-19 Flushing Ave. at 54th st., Maspeth, Queens (L train to Jefferson St.) 8 pm; $5 http://www.knockdowncenter.com/Bring-Your-Own-Beamer-BYOB https://www.facebook.com/events/367739413305345

☼ The first Norwegian version of the international open source art project Bring Your Own Beamer occurred in Oslo on Thursday 21 June 2012. We dropped four shipping containers on location at Sukkerbiten Oslo. Each artist could project whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted, on what ever was in the space at the time.
