BYOB - BRING YOUR OWN BEAMER – COPENHAGEN
Bring Your Own Beamer CPH - 28th April, 17-22 pm
Fabrikken for Kunst og Design, Sundholmsvej 46, 2300 Copenhagen S (www.ffkd.dk)
We invite you to join us in mounting the first Danish version of the international phenomenon BYOB - a series of one-night-exhibitions around the world. The idea is simple: Find a place, invite many artists, and ask them to bring their projectors.
BYOB is a way of making a zero budget show, a celebration of the projected image and a collaborative DIY experience. On the 28th of April from 17 until 22 we will pack between 30 and 40 artists into the space of The Factory for Art & Design in Copenhagen - each of them wielding their own projector. Each artist can project whatever they want, wherever they want, on whatever is in the space at the time. BYOB is an event based exclusively on the participating artists own projecting equipment and labour. Motivated by the increased ubiquity and flexibility of portable projection, this is an experimental and independent night of projections based on a concept by artist Rafaël Rozendaal.
Featuring multiple generations of artists that span many disciplines, BYOB has an open structure that allows for impulse and experimentation, while placing responsibility for the physical format and engagement of the exhibition directly in the hands in the participants. The individual works will often overlap and sometimes even merge, producing an environment that is more than the sum of its parts.
BYOB CPH focuses on an investigational, interdisciplinary and collective nature of the projected image. Presenting formats ranging from performance to still life, the absence of centralized curatorial themes or control in BYOB CPH fosters direct negotiation with the space as well as among the participants – as they collectively install their works in and around existing works being produced in The Factory for Art and Design.
Artists and visitors alike will navigate in an unstable visual landscape formed by a temporary collective identity. The result is an unpredictable aesthetic outcome for artists and visitors, a condition which comments both on the politics of the moving image and the need to see art as a dynamic field of collaboration, initiative and co-presence.
Next BYOB is at is May 21 from 17-22. At Nikolai Kirke
